“A guy out there was meant to be the love of your life, your best friend, your soulmate, the one you can tell your dreams to. He’ll brush the hair out of your eyes, send you flowers when you least expect it. He’ll stare at you during the movies, even though he paid eight dollars to see it. He’ll call to say goodnight or just because he is missing you. He’ll look in you eyes and tell you, you’re the most beautiful girl in the world and for the first time in your life, you’ll believe it.” — ~ Nicholas Sparks

Dear person,

I know you’re there, reading and supporting me. IT made me NOT want to do away with my blog. Hey, I thought no one was reading it, ever! But I have faith, newly found faith! And I’m going to keep doing it and, doing it often *insert, That’s what she said, here* Just so you know, those condescending trips on my blog posts are never meant for you and never will be (because you obviously have taste :P) Here’s a tight virtual hug. I never do sappy posts, but I do love you so much, this IS required. A shout out to my favorite readers from my favorite cities, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore and home, Mumbai :)

Mucho amor,

Purnima

23 things

Life lessons cannot be summarized by the age you’re at, and I’m not attempting to accomplish that feat here. There would probably more life lessons one would have learned, consciously and otherwise, than there are pages in every bible sold on the planet and those that haven’t even been sold, or published. I clearly love the dramatics of exaggeration. But hey, I learn something new everyday. And sometimes, maybe two, three, ten things or, none at all, if I haven’t been paying attention. But just because of my fondness for compartmentalizing thoughts and all things listed, I want to enlist those life lessons, which I’ve favorited (for the lack of a better word) If you’re looking for a self-help list here, you’re probably going to have to look somewhere else.

1) In three words, I can summarize, the hardest lesson I’ve ever learned about life; It goes on. And I’m not the best implementor of my own words, but, I’ve slowly come to grasp the essence of this powerful trifecta. To everything in your life that has caused regression, sadness and maybe even depression, it shall pass.

2) Clutter (external) is representative of the organization of your thoughts. Sometimes, to clean up your thoughts and focus, it may be essential to clean up your environment. And as ludicrous as that sounds, it’s worked for me. Thanks, mom.

3) READ. Read books, the news, tech blogs, regular blogs, sports, entertainment and everything in between. When you’re well read, you’ll seldom complain that it’s hard to find people with the same interests as you. Dumbing down to the level of people in a conversation is easy, to smarten up, you need to be well read.

4) Get some alone time. Retiring to your zone for some lone time helps organize your thoughts (Refer 2)

5) Return calls and emails. Later never comes, you’d much rather do it right now. Procrastination is a vicious cycle.

6) Use sunscreen, your old self will thank your young wise self for sparing two minutes of a day to protect your skin.

7) Don’t spend the money you don’t have, for things you don’t need. No you DON’T need that $200 pashmina scarf or those Uggs.

8) Get drunk. I have no sound reasoning for this one, because it isn’t required.

9) I’m not sure if this is relevant in all scenarios, but for me, whining is cathartic. I love a good ol’ whining session.

10) Chocolate is God’s way of telling us he loves us.

11) Credit Cards are EVIL. Video games are AWESOME. Unrelated sentences punctuated with a period is AWESOMER. Being random however, is AWESOMEST.

12) You will MISS your school and college days. Cherish them. Live it up.

13) There will always be that one person whose luckier, smarter, better looking and richer than you. Save the “why me” speech for some other time.

14) Sing. It’s therapeutic.

15) Buying those incredible jeans (or other clothes) which are two sizes too small because your heart says that you’ll “eventually” fit into them is a GINORMOUS mistake ( I hate that word and I still used it for the sake of emphasis, that’s how I feel about this) Because guess what missy, that’s never gonna happen. Lose the weight, then buy the jeans.

16) Magazine covers are PHOTOSHOPPED. Everyone with stylists, great clothes and incredible hair styling and make up will look that good. Don’t beat yourself about it.

17) Wasting time is amazing. To really soak in the pleasure of wastefulness, it must not be indulged in often.

18) It’s important to know about your culture, your country, your roots. Nothing spells douche more than being dumfounded and offering nothing substantial to a conversation when questioned about one or more of the aforementioned.

19) Kids are awesome. A lot can be learned from their unrelenting spirit, their curiosity, their immaturity, their attitude, and their unconditional love. So basically, puppies are awesome too.

20) If you’ve never got wet in the rain, you’ve missed out on something real special. Even in all the mucky glory and diseases that rain brings with it, I can’t really put my finger on what makes it amazing.

21) Say sorry like you mean it. Apologizing hasn’t killed anyone, yet. So chances are slim, that you’ll die from it.

22) Power struggles in every relationship is the worst thing EVER. Take it from the person who unintentionally indulged in it. Thank YOU, you helped me resolve it. You know who you are.

23) Be yourself. Life isn’t a popularity contest. There are people who will like you, for you. Why maintain a visage when it’s easier to just be you. Take it or leave it.

Happiest Sheep in the World -

I’m freeeeeeeeeeeee =)

“He’s not perfect. You aren’t either, and the two of you will never be perfect. But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can. He isn’t going to quote poetry, he’s not thinking about you every moment, but he will give you a part of him that he knows you could break. Don’t hurt him, don’t change him, and don’t expect for more than he can give. Don’t analyze. Smile when he makes you happy, yell when he makes you mad, and miss him when he’s not there. Love hard when there is love to be had. Because perfect guys don’t exist, but there’s always one guy that is perfect for you.” — ~Bob Marley
